DePauw Wraps up NCAC First Half with 29-Point Win over Oberlin

Greencastle, Ind. - Number-one DePauw struggled offensively in the opening minutes and trailed by as many as seven in its North Coast Athletic Conference contest with visiting Oberlin, but the Tigers regrouped quickly and ran away with a 73-44 win.

The Tigers moved to 17-0 overall and completed the first half of NCAC play at 8-0, while the Yeowomen dropped to 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

DePauw hit just one of its first 14 field goal tries and trailed 9-2, but Emma Ondik's three with 12:16 left in the first half stopped the Oberlin run. The Yeowomen still held a five-point advantage after Lindsey Bernhardt knocked in two free throws with 9:31 remaining.

The Tigers' Hannah Douglas hit a jumper 20 seconds later and that started 15-0 stretch over the next four minutes and DePauw took a 34-22 lead into the break.

After DePauw stretched the lead to 17 early in the second half, Oberlin cut the margin back to nine at 45-36. The Tigers then took control with an 18-4 run and only allowed the Yeowomen eight points over the game's final 13 minutes.

Douglas and Ondik each scored 17 to lead the Tigers, while Alex Gasaway finished with 13. The 17 for Douglas matched her DePauw career high. Alison Stephens grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds as DePauw held a 49-29 rebounding edge and a 23-5 advantage in second-chance points. Ali Ross dished out a team-high four assists. 

Bernhardt paced Oberlin with 19 points and Lillian Jahan added 11 with Christina Marquette grabbing 10 rebounds. Malisa Hoak handed out four assists in the loss.

DePauw shot 43.5 percent from the floor including 54.8 percent in the second half, while Oberlin connected on just 30.8 percent from the floor. Each team hit seven three-pointers and Ondik had five in eight attempts for DePauw.

The Tigers wrap up their stretch of four straight home games when it hosts Wooster at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
