Faculty Select Series Presents Solaire Quartet Wednesday

The virtuosic saxophone ensemble Solaire Quartet returns to DePauw University to perform a concert as part of the Faculty Select Series on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Green Center’s Thompson Recital Hall.

The ensemble features DePauw School of Music faculty member Scotty Stepp on baritone saxophone. Other members of the quartet include Otis Murphy (soprano saxophone), associate professor of music at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; Paul Bro (alto saxophone), professor of music at Indiana State University; and Sam Fritz (tenor saxophone), director of bands at Center Grove Middle School Central.

The program is designed to showcase the ensemble’s talents in a variety of different repertoire with the quartet performing both newer works composed for saxophone quartet as well as arrangements of orchestral works by composers Astor Piazzolla and George Frederic Handel.

Also, audiences will not want to miss a chance to hear the lyrical and exhilarating Russell Peck piece Drastic Measures, a work that is heavily influence by the blues, jazz, and popular music.  After intermission, Solaire will perform a beautiful arrangement of Gabriel’s Oboe by Ennio Morricone and conclude the concert with Ralph Martino’s American Suite for Saxophone Quartet.

General admission tickets for the Faculty Select Series are $5. Tickets for all students, seniors over 65, and youth, 12 years and younger, are free thanks to season sponsors, Judson and Joyce Green.
