Commencement DVDs Have Arrived from the Factory and are Now Shipping

Loaded with more than five hours of content, including footage of each member of DePauw University's Class of 2017 receiving a diploma, the DVD of the 178th Commencement arrived from the factory today and begins shipping immediately.  The limited edition production is $19.95 for the first disc; additional discs sent to the same address are $8 each (shipping to domestic addresses is included; 7% sales tax will be added to Indiana orders).

In addition to the May 21 ceremony, which included an address by TOMS CEO and 1983 DePauw graduate Jim Alling, the disc offers the sights and sounds of the program from Holton Memorial Quadrangle, plus a broad array of bonus features. The extra content includes a photo gallery from commencement weekend; campus highlights of the past four years on campus (beginning with a clip of the opening convocation at which the Class of 2017 was welcomed to DePauw and montages of Ubben Lecturers such as Andrew Luck, David Cameron, Piper Kerman, Dan Quayle '69, Martin Luther King III, and Jimmy Kimmel); the "Monon Memory" of November's thrilling battle for the Monon Bell; a visit to Marvin's, home of the garlic cheeseburger; Yo-Yo Ma cutting the ribbon for Music on the Square; the inauguration of President D. Mark McCoy; and musician and honorary degree recipient Todd Rundgren's special message to DePauw's Class of 2017.

Gaumey Neal Bob SteuberAlso included on the DVD are a 1975 WGRE interview with legendary Tiger football coach Raymond "Gaumey" Neal; a 1987 TV newscast from campus; footage of Richard F. Rosser being introduced as DePauw's 17th president in 1977; looks back at the 1993 commencement address by Vernon Jordan '93, campus visits by Olympians Janet Evans and Greg Louganis, and at the Ubben Lectures by Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher; and there's a 1986 restaurant review from the Walden Inn (now known as The Inn at DePauw).

"The goal of this project is to create a keepsake for graduates and parents of a very special day -- commencement -- while underscoring the history that was made during the Class of 2017's326A6469 four years here and the great stories that have been made during DePauw's 180-years," says Ken Owen '82, executive director of media relations, who oversees the project and masters the disc.

The DVDs are professionally replicated (by Oasis Disc Manufacturing), not duplicated, and are housed in a decorative jacket.  Miranda Bemis, communications assistant and office manager, created the artwork.

This marks the 16th commencement DVD that DePauw has produced, and the 41st DVD overall.  Past projects include 21 Monon Bell Classics (1977, 1984, 1993, 1994 and 2000-16), some of which remain available click here.
