Prof. Brent Johnson '95 Awarded Berglund Center for Internet Studies Faculty Fellowship

April 22, 2012

Brent Johnson, assistant professor of English at Pacific University in Oregon and 1995 graduate of DePauw University, is the recipient of the Berglund Center for Internet Studies Faculty Fellowship for 2012-2013. A joint effort between the Berglund Center and Pacific University, the fellowship supports field-appropriate scholarly research, or in developing programmatic use of or assessment of the Internet.

"Johnson's research proposal is to create and facilitate a literature course in which students at Pacific engage in a cross-cultural exchange over selected, common texts via the Internet," notes an announcement from Pacific. "This project will be in conjunction with students at York St. John’s University (YSJU) in York, United Kingdom. From this experience, students will consider the central question: What role does culture play in how we experience and interpret a text?"

LGL5882Johnson, who serves as the director of Pacific's Writing Resource Center, "is currently at work on a book-length memoir based on travels with his family during his fall sabbatical," according to the university.

After graduating cum laude from DePauw, where he majored in English, Johnson earned a master in fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Idaho.
