Brad Stevens '99 Ties 61-Year-Old NCAA Coaching Record

Brad Stevens Final4 2011Brad Stevens, head men's basketball coach at Butler University and 1999 graduate of DePauw University, reached a milestone with the Bulldogs' 71-49 victory over Milwaukee last night in a Horizon League basketball tournament quarterfinal. The Indianapolis Star's David Woods notes, "Stevens (137-38) pulled into a tie for the NCAA record for most victories in the first five years as a head coach. North Carolina State's Everett Case was 137-29 from 1946-51."

Butler, which is now 20-13 on the season, faces #1 seed Valparaiso (21-10) in tonight's second semifinal game.

Stevens, who was an economics major and Management Fellow at DePauw, was named Butler's head coach on April 5, 2007. He was a 2011 recipient of the Spirit of the Monon Bell Award.

In June 2010, a half-hour program on FOX Sports Midwest focused on Stevens' success at Butler and included comments from his college coach, DePauw's Bill Fenlon.

On April 13, 2010, Stevens returned to his alma mater to deliver the Robert C. McDermond Lecture.
