R. David Hoover '67 Named CEO of Ball Corporation

January 29, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - R. David Hoover, a 1967 graduate of DePauw University and a member of DePauw's Board of Visitors, has been named president and chief executive officer of Ball Corporation.

Hoover's career with Ball Corporation began in 1970. He has served in a variety of positions, including assistant to the treasurer, vice president of several divisions, vice president and treasurer of the corporation, and chief financial officer. Hoover became president of Ball Corporation, on January 1, 2000, with the company's packaging operations reporting to him. On January 24, 2001, Ball's board of directors elected him president and chief executive officer.

Ball Corporation is one of the world's leading suppliers of metal and plastic packaging to the beverage and food industries. The company also owns Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. Ball, based in Broomfield, Colo., reported 1999 sales of $3.6 billion.

Hoover, a native of Straughn, Indiana, also serves on the boards of Datum, Inc., Maxon Corporation, and Energizer Holdings, Inc. Besides his work for DePauw, he is also a member of the boards of the Boulder, Colorado Chamber of Commerce and the Boulder Community Foundation.

Hoover received a bachelor's degree in economics from DePauw in1967. He was awarded an M.B.A. in finance and real estate from Indiana University in 1970, and completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1988.

Hoover and his wife, Suzanne (Anderson, DePauw '67), are parents of a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, Jonathan. They reside in Longmont, Colorado.
