Wall Street Journal Cites DePauw Campaign and Holton Gift

March 8, 2001

March 8, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - The recently completed and highly successful "Campaign for DePauw" and specifically the generous Holton gift were featured in a front page story in the Wall Street Journal. The article marveled at the size of the $128 million gift, while acknowledging the magnitude of the impact the Holton gift would have upon the future of the University. The growth of the endowment, due to the campaign's success, has allowed DePauw to "dream our dreams," states President Bottoms; but the article rightly notes, "Academic dreams don't come cheap."

The Journal's June Kronholz commented that the huge gift raised DePauw's sights and fueled its goals. Citing several planned enhancements to the campus -- the spring groundbreaking for a new art building, renovation of the current Emison Art Center, renovation to the Julian Science and Mathematics Center -- the article heralds the generosity of DePauw alumni in making these ambitious dreams possible.

The story also examines the challenges posed by DePauw's new success.
