DePauw Professor and ISO Violinist to Perform Benefit Concert July 28th

East College is 1July 20, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - Indianapolis Symphony Ochestra violinist Jayna Park and DePauw cello professor Eric Edberg will perform a free concert of unaccompanied works by Bach and Paganini on Sunday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 520 E. Seminary Street in Greencastle. An offering will be taken to benefit for the Food For the Poor ministry, which combats poverty in Caribbean and Latin American countries. St. Andrew's previously raised $2,000 to build a house for a family in Jamaica. With this concert it begins a new project to fund wells for four communities in the mountains of Haiti.

The concert will begin with Bach's Suite for Solo Cello in G Major, followed by four movements of Bach's Partita for Solo Violin in E Major, and conclude with two virtuosic violin caprices by Nicolo Paganini.

Korean-born Indianapolis Symphony violinist Jayna Jeyoun Park is a critically-acclaimed solo performer who has won numerous competitions and performed at major music centers including Carnegie Hall, the Aspen Festival, and the Spoleto Festival. She will be competing in this fall's Indianapolis International Violin Competition.

DePauw cello professor Eric Edberg has performed extensively in this country and Europe as a solo and chamber musician, and with such improvisational artists as David Darling and Paul Horn. He teaches cello, chamber music, and music improvisation at DePauw.

Since 1982, Food For the Poor has shipped more than $946 million worth of supplies to help the poor of 27 countries, including the United States. With administrative costs of only 9.3%, it is one of the most highly regarded poverty-relief organizations in the United States. St. Andrew's hopes that local classical-music lovers will attend this free concert and make a donation to those in Haiti in desperate need of clean water.
