Kara Patterson '99 Wins Newspaper Award

February 13, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - Kara N. (Vozel) Patterson, a reporter with the Post-Crescent of Appleton, Wisconsin and a 1999 graduate of DePauw University, earned a top honor in the Wisconsin Newspaper Association's “Better Newspaper” contest. Patterson shares the "best special section" award with photographer Kristyna Wentz-Graff for "Kurgan Revisited," which was published on March 2, 2002 (The photo of Kara Patterson is from the 1999 Mirage).

An article in the Post-Crescent notes, "'Kurgan Revisited,' an eight-page section, gave readers an inside look at the difficulty of life in the Siberian area near Kurgan, Appleton's Russian sister city. Wentz-Graff accompanied a 12-person delegation from the Fox Cities to the Kurgan area in December 2001... Patterson contributed to the Kurgan section's overview story, underscoring why the Sister Cities project is important to Fox Valley readers. Patterson, 25, is a native of Evansville, Indiana, and a graduate ofNewspapers 011 DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She has been a P-C reporter since 1999."
