School of Music To Present Spring Gala Concert Sunday

May 1, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - This Sunday, May 4, six DePauw University School of Music ensembles will present a free gala concert in Kresge Auditorium at 3 p.m. The DePauw University Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Opera Cast, and Men of Note will perform as individual ensembles and will join forces for a finale of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform Bernstein's Overture to Candide, and Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, while the Chamber Orchestra will join the cast from the DePauw production of Mozart's opera, The Marriage of Figaro, to present a scene from that famous work. The University Chorus with sing songs by Eleanor Daley, Felix Mendelssohn, Sally DeFord, and Anton Bruckner. Two Brahms' part songs, two folk arrangements, a setting of Ave verum corpus by Imant Raminsh, and Rise up, my love by Healy Willan will be performed by the Chamber Singers. The barbershop quartet, Men of Note, will perform I Never Knew and Old King Cole.
