Singer, Songwriter and Music Advocate Ann McWilliams '92 Profiled in INtake

May 19, 2004

May 19, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Ann McWilliams, a 1992 graduate of DePauw University, "became the tireless advocate -- almost like a superhero -- for local musicians," begins an article in INtake, a weekly newspaper in Indianapolis. "She's a music promoter, advocate, organizer, radio show host and a lead singer in a band. 'It's a labor of love and a creative expression,' said 33-year-old McWilliams. But McWilliams stumbled upon this role by accident. She developed her event-planning skills for good causes in college, honed her business sense after working in various positions in the music business, and understands the struggles of an independent musician from being one herself."

The story by Darnell Morris-Compton notes that, "for the summer alone, McWilliams will be surrounded by music as she helps promote nearly 100 live events." They include Arts at Indy Parks, a summer arts series organized each year by the Indy Parks and Recreation department; concerts at the Indianapolis City Market; and the second annual concert at the President Benjamin Harrison Home. McWilliams is also lead singer and guitarist for the Ann McWilliams Band, and serves as host of the nationally syndicated radio show, City of Music Radio Hour. "I concentrate on what's right in front of me," she tells the newspaper. "The first thing that comes to mind, that's what I do."
