Tigers lose SCAC contest at Sewanee

DSC_0590.jpgJanuary 28, 2005, Sewanee, Tenn. - Sewanee scored the final five points of the first half and the first three of the second and DePauw never was able to get the margin to single digits as the hosts topped the Tigers 70-51 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. DePauw dropped to 11-7 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC, while Sewanee improved to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

The Tigers finished with their second worst shooting night of the season at 32.1 percent, while Sewanee put together one of its best of the season in hitting on just under 49 percent.

The game was a tight one throughout the first half before Jason Smith's dunk with 6:18 left started a 9-0 Sewanee run that pushed the lead to 26-15 lead with 4:31 remaining. Sewanee took an 11-point lead into the intermission at 33-22 and kept it in double digits the entire second half.

Joey Hanger and Steve Schott each scored 11 for DePauw, while Todd Capes added 10. Spencer Rowland led Sewanee with 20 with Smith adding 18 and a game-high nine rebounds. Joey Garcia chipped in 11 in the win. Capes and Schott each hauled down six DePauw rebounds as Sewanee held a 38-33 advantage on the glass.

DePauw travels to Centre on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest that can be heard on WGRE.
