DePauw tops nationally-ranked Franklin

March 31, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw pounded out 15 hits for the game and totaled 10 runs over the opening two innings on the way to a 15-4 win over 30th-ranked Franklin. DePauw improved to 17-8, while the Grizzlies dropped to 10-4.

Matt Deahl, Adrian Norris and Chris Newman each collected three hits, while John Younger added a pair in the win. Norris drove in five and Deahl had three RBI for the Tigers.

DePauw scored four in the first and six in the second with Norris capping the second inning scoring with a three-run homer to the scoreboard in left. The Tigers added four in the fifth and one in the seventh on a pinch-hit, leadoff homer by Jon Gratz.

Franklin totaled seven hits led by Blake Ruff with two.

In all, 29 DePauw players played in the game with nine different pitchers throwing one inning each.

Mark Alson improved to 4-1 with the win, while Nick Hammons dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw hosts Centre in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
