Deahl, Alson earn SCAC honors

DSC_8453.jpgApril 5, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw junior third baseman Matt Deahl has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while senior pitcher Mark Alson earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Deahl went 8-for-14 in the Tigers' five wins last week with six runs scored and nine RBI. He added three doubles for a .786 slugging percentage and hit safely in all five games. For the season, Deahl is hitting .400 and has driven in 33 runs which ranks in a tie for third in the conference.

Alson was 2-0 on the mound last week with wins over Franklin and Centre. In eight innings he allowed four hits, no runs while striking out 10 and not allowing a walk. Opponents hit just .138 off him during the week. He ranks fifth in the SCAC with a 2.54 ERA and is tied for second with five wins. He shared the pitcher of the week honros with Brian Oates of Trinity.

DSC_0537.jpgDePauw, 21-8 on the season and 10-2 in the SCAC East Division, travels to Franklin on Wednesday before facing Rose-Hulman in a four-game series beginning Friday.
