DePauw Picked Second in SCAC Coaches' Preseason Football Poll
August 16, 2005
August 16, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - A preseason survey of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference football head coaches finds Trinity University the favorite to win its 13th consecutive conference title, but DePauw University is a strong second. Trinity was tabbed as the favorite on five of seven ballots and received 47 points overall. DePauw was the coaches' second pick with 39 points, including one first-place vote.
The SCAC's 2005 football prospectus notes that DePauw, which has not defeated Trinity since joining the conference in 1998, "was nine seconds away from ending [Trinity's] title run but Trinity converted on fourth-down with a nine-yard touchdown pass ... to take a 29-28 victory in Greencastle last season."
The prospectus adds, "The conference has one new head coach this season, as Tim Rogers takes over the DePauw program, succeeding Bill Lynch, who resigned to become assistant head coach at Indiana University. Also of note, the annual gridiron battle between DePauw and Wabash (112th meeting) will again be nationally televised this year on DirecTV.
