Six Straight -- DePauw Prevails Over Centre 14-7 in 99th Old Gold Day Game

DSC_1616.jpgOctober 29, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University's football Tigers clawed to their sixth straight victory this afternoon at Blackstock Stadium, defeating Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Centre College, 14-7 on Old Gold Day. The victory boosts DePauw's season record to 6-1 and 4-0 in the SCAC; Centre falls to 6-3 and 2-3. DePauw, tied for the conference lead with Trinity, has now won eight straight SCAC games dating back to September 2004.

DePauw took a 14-0 lead into halftime, but Centre fought back in the second half, scoring once, and driving to the Tigers' 4-yard-line late DePauw Helmetin the game before being shut down on a 4th and goal by the home team's defense.

Sophomore Jeremiah Marks led the Tiger offense with 117 yards on 18 carries.  Quarterback Ross Wiethoff gained 39 yards in 11 scampers and passed for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Old Gold Parade 2005.jpgDePauw is now 61-35-3 in Old Gold Day games, which began in 1907.  Fans -- includiing students and alumni who returned for homecoming weekend -- took part in a parade that began at Rector Village and led to the stadium, reinstituting a DePauw tradition from days of old.
