Women Win and Men Fall as Basketball Season Opens

DSC_7894.jpgNovember 19, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team was outscored 46-22 in the paint en route to a 72-60 season-opening loss Friday night to DePauw in the first round of the Washington University Tournament," reports today's Pantagraph of Central Illinois. "DePauw got 21 points from Liz Bondi and 12 rebounds from Lindsay Houin," the newspaper adds of the 19th-ranked Tigers.

The men's team opened its season last night withstewart0304.jpg a 74-66 loss to Ohio Northern University in the first round of the Albion Classic. Ohio's Lima News notes, "ONU opened the game on a hot streak, hitting its first four 3-pointers and taking a 20-8 lead. DePauw rallied back to take a 36-35 lead at halftime. The game was tied at 57 with six minutes, 32 second remaining before the Polar Bears went on their 14-3 run. Alex Stewart led DePauw with 32 points."
