Robinson -- an elementary education and Spanish major from Carmel, Indiana -- was among 282 applicants for the honor. One of the 33 princesses will be selected as the 2006 500 Festival Queen and receive a $2,500 scholarship. The queen will be crowned May 20 during the 500 Festival Mayors Breakfast at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 500 Festival Princesses, representing 10 Indiana colleges and universities and 26 Hoosier cities and towns, were selected based on communication skills, poise, academic performance and community and volunteer involvement and will help commemorate the 2006 500 Festival and 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 theme: "Celebrate the Spectacle!"

The princesses attend 500 Festival events and volunteer programs throughout the month of May, in addition to performing statewide community outreach programs of their choosing. In addition, they are present at various Indianapolis Motor Speedway functions and participate in the Indianapolischeckered flag.jpg 500 Victory Circle celebration.

The 500 Festival was created in 1957 to organize civic events celebrating the Indianapolis 500. It is a not-for-profit organization supported by corporate sponsorships, memberships and ticket sales. More than 7,000 volunteers help produce 500 Festival events. With annual participation of more than 425,000 people from around Indiana and the world, it has grown to be one of the largest festivals in the nation.
