Tigers improve to 3-2 with win over Marian

February 28, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Pinch-hitter Gary Ehlebracht lifted an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to center that scored pinch-runner Justin Weiner and gave DePauw a 7-6 victory over visiting Marian.

Greg DeBeer led off the inning with a single and Weiner came in to run before Matt Drew walked. Kyle Thompson then pinch hit and advanced the runners with a bunt. Kyle Dobbs was intentionally walked before Ehlebracht delivered the game-winning RBI.

Marian jumped out to a 3-0 lead with one in the first on Jason Moon's sacrifice fly and two in the second on Trent Conn's RBI single and Derek Mailikian's run-scoring triple.

DePauw countered with two in the second when Drew scored from third on Dobbs' steal of second. Zach Harris drove in Dobbs with a single.

The Tigers took the lead with three in the fourth on Drew's RBI single, Jake Tri's ground out and Matt Kleine's single. Marian tied the game at 5-5 with two in the fifth before the Tigers regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on DeBeer's grounder. The Knights knotted the score again in the eighth on Conn's double just beyond third before the Tigers won it in the bottom of the eighth.

DePauw totaled 10 hits with Chris Newman collecting two and eight others totaling one each. Conn had two of Marian's five hits.

P.J. Mitchell improved to 1-1 on the season after pitching the final two innings, while Shane Surber suffered the loss in relief.

DePauw hosts Benedictine on Sunday in a single game on Saturday at noon.
