NCAA Tournament Begins Tonight with Two Tiger Teams in the Hunt for National Championships

austinbrown122305.jpgMarch 3, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "DePauw opens play today in the NCAA Division III Championships at Wisconsin-Whitewater by virtue of winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title," writes Kristen Leigh Porter in today's Indianapolis Star. "The Tigers won the championship 64-61 over Centre College Sunday on junior Austin Brown's 61-foot buzzer beater. It was the Play of the Day on ESPN, and Brown appeared Wednesday morning on ESPN2's Cold Pizza. Brown was named the SCAC Tournament MVP and joined Stephen Schott (Roncalli) on the all-tournament team. Schott also was named third team All-SCAC."

The DePauw women's basketball team, which has won 26 consecutive games, earned the only bye in the 63-team field of the NCAA Division III Championship and will open play at home -- in DePauw's Lilly Center -- in the second round on Saturday, March 4, at 7 p.m. against Maryville (Tenn.)
