Tigers split doubleheader against Trinity

March 17, 2006, Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw is 6-2 on the season following a doubleheader split with Trinity in games played at Rhodes College. Trinity is 9-9 after the split.Trinity won the opener by a 9-0 score, but the Tigers won the nightcap 10-5 for their first win over Trinity in seven tries.
In the opener, Trinity pounded out 15 hits and held the Tigers to just four in the five-inning contest. Trinity scored four in each of the first two innings and one in the third.
Melissa Johnson colleged three hits, while Kate Wright, Kristen Weber, Erin Fodness, Mandy Chastang and Kristin Yurasits each had two. Lauren Rees, Kristy Mahon, Jessica Krueger and Chelsy Patterson each had one for DePauw. Erin Mulvey picked up the win and improved to 3-4, while Lauren Curosh dropped to 3-2.
In the second game, DePauw jumped out to an 8-0 lead with one in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth. The Tigers collected 11 hits with Rees, Krueger and Ashley Sewell each totling two. Trinity finished with eight hits led by Jamie Williams with three along with Wright and Fodness with two each. Rees drove in four runs including three on a fourth-inning homer, while Krueger drove in three. Curosh improved to 4-2 with the win, while Johnson dropped to 4-4.
The Tigers play Hendrix and Rhodes on Saturday.
