Late Franklin rally sends Tigers to defeat

April 18, 2006, Franklin, Ind. - Host Franklin scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth and rallied to defeat DePauw, 13-8. The Tigers dropped to 14-20 with the loss, while the Grizzlies improved to 16-13.

DePauw battled back from an early deficit to take a 6-4 lead in the fourth and still led 8-6 before the Grizzlies erupted for seven in the eighth to take the win.

Matt Deahl and Zach Harris led the Tigers as each collected three of the Tigers' 11 hits and each drove in a pair as did Chris Newman. Harris hit a solo homer to lead off the fourth.

Franklin pounded out 17 hits with Nathan Roberts, Jim Swienconek and David Verdeyen each totaling three. David Federoff, Ben Werner and Lance LaBonte each finished with two. Roberts, Werner and Tim Rooze each drove in three. Rooze hit a solo homer in the seventh and Roberts had a three-run double in the eighth.

Jared Applegate improved to 2-2 after pitching five innings in relief, while Brian Scott dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Tigers committed five errors in the contest.

The Tigers host Sewanee in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
