Tigers lose opening game at SCAC Tournament

April 27, 2006, Winchester, Tenn. - DePauw opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament play on the short end of a 7-1 decision to Millsaps at Tomahawk Stadium. The Tigers dropped to 17-22 on the season and face Sewanee at 10 a.m. CDT on Friday in an elimination game. Millsaps improved to 31-10 and plays Rhodes at 2 p.m. CDT on Friday.

DePauw starter P.J. Mitchell struck out the first four batters he faced, but Millsaps reached the board first in the third as John Pacillo and Luke Morrow each singled and advanced a base on a ground out. Pacillo scored on Nick Crawford's grounder.

The Tigers knotted the score in the fourth as Kyle Dobbs singled with two outs and moved to third on Jeremy Dickinson's base hit. Zach Harris then singled through the left side to tie the game at 1-1.

Millsaps took the lead for good with a pair in the fourth as Hunter Abrams singled home Justin Carter and Garner Wetzel scored on a double play. The Majors added four in the fifth on Carter's RBI single, Derrik Boland's two-run double and Morrow's run-scoring base hit.

The Majors totaled 15 hits led by Pacillo and Morrow with three each. Jason Hadley, Carter and Boland each added two. Seven different Tigers finished with one hit each.

Mitchell dropped to 6-6 with the loss, while John Fox remained unbeaten at 8-0.
