Denison advances to NCAA second round following 5-0 win over Washington

May 5, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Denison, ranked 16th in Division III advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis second round following a 5-0 win over 19th-ranked Washington-St. Louis.

The Big Red improved to 18-6 on the season and will face DePauw at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Washington finished the season at 14-9.

Denison swept the doubles point at Kendra Murray and Erin Coughlin defeated Lauren Zwick and Shweta Pai at the number one slot by a 9-7 score. Sarah Mitchiner and Carly Newman were 8-3 winners over Ashley Cook and Ania Tchergueiko at number two, while Whitney Block and Erin Gorsich defeated Erin Fleming and Betsy Wan at number three by an 8-6 score.

Coughlin beat Cook at number four singles by 6-3, 6-0 scores and Gorsich clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wan at number six.
