President Kerstetter Named to Dickinson's Sports Hall of Fame

Kerstetter, president of DePauw University, was today inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A three-sport star at Dickinson between 1932 and 1936, Dr. Kerstetter was one of three honorees. They were recognized for demonstrating professional leadership abnd public service in their post-graduate years, in addition to having been student leaders and outstanding athletes while undergraduates.

Called "probably the premier soccer player in the history of the sport at Dickinson," Kerstetter played left inside on the varsity soccer squad his sophomore and junior years, leadingDePauw Seal.jpg the team in scoring as a junior. When the squad was without a coach his senior year, Kerstetter served as both coach and captain.

Kerstetter also lettered in track and basketball, and was most valuable player and co-captain of the latter team his senior year.

A 1936 graduate of Dickinson, President Kerstetter earned the S.T.B., magna cum laude, and Ph.D., with fellowship honors, from Boston University. He was named president of Simpson College in Iowa in 1953 and became DePauw's 16th president in 1963.
