Vernon Jordan '57 Receives Honorary Degree from Michigan State University

March 12 ,1972, Greencastle, Ind. - Vernon E. Jordan Jr., executive director of the National Urban League and 1957 graduate of DePauw University, is today being awarded an honorary degree by Michigan State University. Jordan, a nationally-known leader in the civil rights movement, will receive a Doctor of Laws degree.

A political science major at DePauw and graduate of the Howard University Law School, he has worked as an attorney in Georgia and Arkansas and helped register two million black voters in the South as director of the Voter Education Project of the Southern Regional Council.

Jordan is serving his alma mater as a member of DePauw President William E. Kerstetter's Commission on Education in the Future of DePauw.
