Prof. Clarenda Phillips '92 Appointed Department Chair at Morehead State

Phillips, associate professor of sociology, has been named chair of the department of sociology, social work and criminology at Morehead State University," reports Kentucky's Lexington Herald-Leader. Phillips, a 1992 graduate of DePauw University, will assume the chair July 1.

"Phillips earned Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.A. in sociology from DePauw University," adds the newspaper. "She worked as astudents walk snow 2005.jpg senior research associate with Policy Studies Associates Inc. in Washington, D.C., before starting her career at Morehead State in 2000. In addition to faculty responsibilities, Phillips served as assistant provost, heading major campus initiatives and projects including those related to diversity for the past two academic years."

The text also notes that Dr. Phillips has received a National Institute of Mental Health postdoctoral fellowship and "is the principal investigator and project director for the Governor's Minority College Preparation Program, funded through a grant awarded by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education."
