John Jakes '53 to Hold Book Signing in Sarasota Saturday

John Jakes 2004.jpgJanuary 17, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "John Jakes will sign copies of The Gods of Newport at 2 p.m. Saturday at Borders, 3800 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota," reports that Florida city's Herald-Tribune. Released in November, Newport is the latest effort by Jakes, one of the world's most distinguished authors of historical fiction and 1953 graduate of DePauw University.

In a review of the new book, Publisher's Weekly called Jakes "a fluent storyteller, and his meticulous reconstruction of fin-de-si cle excess will have fans savoring the lavish details of jewelry, fashion, food and follies." Noted Kirkus Reviews, "Historical personages blend nicely with the fictional in Jakes's neatly organized saga, and the folly and ambitions of a father and rapacious businessman are exposed and forgiven. Deemed America's "godfather of the historical novel" by the Los Angeles Times, Jakes has more than 50 million books in print and authored sixteen consecutive New York Times bestsellers.
