Tigers open season at Transylvania

February 25, 2007, Lexington, Ky. - DePauw opened the 2007 season at Transylvania and dropped both ends of a doubleheader. The Pioneers took game one by a 9-5 score and won the nightcap, 9-6, in its season opener as well.

DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 first-innning lead in the opener, but Transylvania rallied for one each in the third and fourth to tie the score. The Tigers regained the lead with a single run in the fifth, but the Pioneers scored five in the fith to take a 7-3 lead. Each team scored two in the sixth.

DePauw totaled six hits with Matt Kleine totaling two. Adam Ford hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Transylvania finished with 10 hits as Cianciola had three and Vasse and Lawson each added a pair.

Luking earned the win, while Tim Baldwin took the loss.

DePauw again jumped out to an early lead with one in the first, but the Pioneers scored two in the first, three in the second and two each in the third and fourth. The Tigers added three in the sixth and two in the seventh with the potential game-tying run on base when the game ended.

The Tigers finished with six hits as Taylor Hoffman led the way with two. Transylvania totaled nine hits led by Vasse with three and Blakely with two. Vasse hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

Florence picked up the win, while Paul Rodenhouse suffered the loss.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 3, when it hosts Elmhurst in a 1 p.m. single game.
