Tigers run win streak to 14 after sweeping Union and Whitewater

March 26, 2007, Fort Myers, Fla. - DePauw improved to 14-0 after defeating Union (N.Y.) by a 6-5 score and Wisconsin-Whitewater, 4-2 in eight innings, this afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Laura Schlensker's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Tigers to the come-from-behind win over Union. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead with one in the first and two in the third, while the Dutchmen gained the lead with three in the fourth and one in the fifth. DePauw knotted the score in the bottom of the sixth on Jessica Kreuger's RBU groundout.
Union gained a 5-4 lead with one in the seventh, but the Tigers won the game when Jessica Bowlds delivered a two-out single and Schlensker followed with an inside-the-park homer. Megan Soultz improved to 5-0 by pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief. DePauw totaled 15 hits led by Chelsy Patterson and Kaitlyn Davitt with three each. Kristy Mahon, Bowlds and Schlensker each added two.
Rachel Gill's two-run triple in the top of the eighth provided the game-winning margin in the victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first on Gill's two-run single, while Whitewater tied the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
With the tiebreaker rule in place, Patterson was placed on second to start the eighth. Krueger singled with one out before Gill knocked both in with the three-bagger. In the bottom of the inning, Whitewater had runners on second and third with no outs, but Soultz struck out the next batter and induced the next two to fly out and foul out.
DePauw totaled six hits as Gill had two along with four RBI. Seven different Whitewater players had one hit each. Soultz improved to 6-0 as she struck out 11 and didn't allow a walk. Dianna Frisbie suffered the loss.Back
