Commencement 2006 4.jpgApril 18, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Members of the Class of 2007 and their families can preserve and relive a special day in their lives -- DePauw University's 168th annual commencement ceremony -- with a commemorative DVD that is now available for pre-order. The multi-camera production -- which will include video of each graduate receiving his or her diploma on camera and Dolby Digital sound -- will be produced by DePauw with the discs professionally replicated by Sony Digital Disc Manufacturing. The discs are available for $25 for the first copy, and $10 for each additional copy being sent to the same address. You can access an online order page by clicking here.

As announced in November, the keynote address to the Class of 2007 will be provided by Karen Koning AbuZayd, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and 1963 graduate of DePauw. AbuZayd will also receive the McNaughton Commencement 2006 7.jpgMedal for Public Service, while Robert M. Steele '69 and William F. Welch '40 will be awarded honorary doctoral degrees.

The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, on the lawn of historic East College (weather permitting).

"As one of the first colleges in the nation to offer a commencement DVD, DePauw is thrilled to announce that it will continue the tradition that began six years ago," says Ken Owen, director of media relations and a 1982 graduate of the University. "Commencement doesn't have to be an event that you rely on memory to recall. This disc should provide graduates and their families with a lifetime of enjoyment and allow them to relive the day with the click of a button. As a small university, I'm pleased that DePauw can provide this high quality product at an affordable price."

As in past years, the DVD's menu will allow you to quickly access the spot in the program you want to see. If you're looking for a graduate whoseCommencement 2006 11.jpg last name is Smith, for instance, you click on the letter 'S' in the menu, you're immediately taken to the first person whose last name begins with the letter 'S' receiving his or her diploma. Users can also jump to specific sections of the program (i.e. the speech by the Walker Cup recipient), or watch the program from beginning to end.

Bonus materials on the disc will include a photo gallery, some of the campus highlights that have occurred since the Class of 2007 arrived in Greencastle, beginning with a clip of the opening convocation address by President Robert G. Bottoms in August 2003, and including visits by suchnotables as Mikhail Gorbachev. Viewers can also access "Monon Memories" from the past four years' DePauw-Wabash gridiron battles.

Commencement 2006 5.jpgThe commencement platter will mark the twelfth DVD that DePauw has produced -- the 2001-05 commencements and the last six Monon Bell Classics also received the digital treatment. The discs are mastered by Owen and professionally replicated in limited quantities by Sony. Read more about the Monon Bell discs and access an online order form by clicking here.
