Tigers top Gators; advance in NCAA Softball regional

May 10, 2007, New Concord, Ohio - Laura Schlensker's single in the bottom of the sixth scored pinch-runner Annie Morgan from second and lifted DePauw to a 2-1 victory over Allegheny in NCAA Division III Softball Regional play at Muskingum College.

The 33-5 Tigers advance in the winner's bracket and face Alma (30-11) at 4 p.m. on Friday. That game can be heard on WGRE. Alma defeated Maryville (Tenn.) by a 12-0 score in today's third game. Allegheny faces Maryville (Tenn.) in an elimination game at noon.

Lauren Rees led off the sixth with a single and moved to second on Jessica Bowlds' sacrifice bunt. Morgan came in to run for Rees and Schlensker delivered the game-winner.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Schlensker and Chelsy Patterson drew two-out walks and Kristy Mahon singled to left scoring Schlensker.

Allegheny tied the game in the sixth when Abby Bodenlos singled and stole second. Following a DePauw fielding error and a strikeout, Rachel Ryan singled home Bodenlos to tie the game.

Megan Soultz improved to 15-3 after allowing just one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks. She retired the first 12 batters she faced. Allison Korotkin dropped to 8-5 after working 2 1/3 relief innings.

The Tigers totaled eight hits led by Jessica Krueger with two. Ryan had two of Allegheny's four hits.
