Phil Mann '06 Wins Race in USA Cycling Collegiate National Championships

Phil Mann 2007.jpgMay 14, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "After placing second in the Division II criterium while racing for DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., last year, [Phil] Mann said he was happy to give his mom a more impressive Mother’s Day present this year," notes today's edition of Kansas' Lawrence Journal-World. “The joke is that I always forget to buy my mom a Mother’s Day gift, so I had to do something good here, especially on Sunday,” Mann tells the newspaper. “Last year I took second, and she was happy with that, so I knew she wasn’t going to be happy with a second place this year. Cycling 2006 Nationals.jpgSo I made sure I won for her." He adds, “We just knew if it happened it would be a great excuse to forget a Mother’s Day gift. But I’m going to milk this for as long as I can. I’ll give them (parents) the medal and put it up on the mantle. That’ll be their gift for a while.”

Phil Mooney of DePauw University's cycling team made a strong showing in Saturday's Division II road race, finishing fourth among the men. In Friday's team trials, DePauw's women's team of Michelle Couch, Abby Currens, Ali Davis and Lauren Guggina finished fifth.
