DePauw Vocalists Take Seven 1st Place Awards at State Competition

East College Yellow Leaves.gifOctober 29, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Seven DePauw University School of Music students won first place awards, and DePauw singers earned another 20 citations at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) statewide competition in Indianapolis over the weekend. Approximately 250 students from Indiana colleges and universities of all sizes participated in the contest, which took place at Indiana State University. Students who won or placed move on to the NATS Great Lakes regional competition, which will be held in the spring.

The following are the DePauw winners, with their voice professor noted in parenthesis:

  • Category 2a: First Year College Women - First Place: Elizabeth Orsborn (student of Caroline Smith); Second Place: Katherine Walker (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category 2b: First Year College Women - First Place: Jorie Moss (student of Pamela Coburn); Second Place: Brianna Jewell (student of Pamela Coburn); Third Place: Ann Jonker (student of Jay White).
  • Category 3: First Year College Men -- First Place: Bradley King (student of Keith Tonne); Honorable Mention: Case Nafziger (student of Stanley Irwin).
  • Category 4a: Second Year College Women -- Second Place: Stephanie Smith (student of Jay White); Honorable Mention: Catherine Lerum (student of Stanley Irwin).
  • Category 4a: Second Year College Women -- Second Place: Carly LaForest (student of Caroline Smith); Third Place: Alaine Geeding (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category 5: Second Year College Men -- First Place: Andrew Richardson (student of Caroline Smith)
  • Categories 6 & 7: Mature Beginner -- Second Place: Ralph Garcia (student of Stanley Irwin).
  • Category 8b: Third Year College Women -- First Place: Lyndsay Moy (student of Stanley Irwin); Second Place: Erica Ross (student of Stanley Irwin); Third Place: Shie Kantor (student of Caroline Smith); Honorable Mention: Shani Wahrman (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category 9: Third Year College Men -- First Place: Carl Frank (student of Caroline Smith); Second Place: Joseph Shadday (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category 10: Fourth Year College Women -- First Place: Leah Souder (student of Caroline Smith); Second Place: Stacey Sands (student of Caroline Smith); Honorable Mention: Jennifer Smith (student of Stanley Irwin).
  • Category B: First and Second Year College Men & Women - Musical Theatre -- Second Place: Caitlin Brown (student of Stanley Irwin); Third Place (tie): Adam Gilbert (student of Jay White) and David Terry (student of Caroline Smith).Green Center Dusk.jpg
  • Category C: Third and Fourth Year College Men & Women - Musical Theatre -- Second Place: James Patton (student of Stanley Irwin); Third Place: Matt Patterson (student of Caroline Smith).
