Walden Inn Cited in Restaurant Management Magazine

June 6, 1987

June 6, 1987, Greencastle, Ind. - The Different Drummer restaurant, located within Walden Inn on the DePauw University campus and "open about a year, has forged solid ties to the area and attracted residents from throughout the state by showcasing traditional local dishes, locally grown foods and area residents who grow, prepare and serve the food," notes the latest issue of Restaurant Management magazine. The publication also recognizes the contributions of innkeeper/chef Matt O'Neill, a classically-trained chef from Ireland.

"Just as in Europe, the true jewels of his country's cooking are in the provinces -- what in the U.S. is called the 'country,'" O'Neill tells the magazine. "The real loving talent and individual attention in cooking is still Old DePauw Gold EC Logo.jpgmost often found in the country."

A study of Greencastle earlier in this decade identified a high-quality inn as an item that would improve the quality of life in Greencastle and DePauw's recruiting efforts. Subsequently, several alumni and trustees formed a limited partnership to fund its construction. Visitors to the University often stay at Walden Inn, which is located at the corner of Seminary and Vine streets, adjacent to Asbury Hall on the site of the former Fluttering Duck.
