February 26, 2008

Chelsea Israel.jpgFebruary 26, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "In this election-crazed year, Chelsea Israel of Richwood is getting a close-up look at one of the most political cities in America," begins an article in today's Boone County Recorder of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. "Israel, 20, is an intern this spring semester at C-SPAN in Washington, D.C. ... (She) is a junior at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., as an English writing major with a minor in political science. She's doing the internship as part of the school's Media Fellows program."

"I've been exposed to things that I would not be exposed to in a classroom environment," Israel tells the newspaper. "I'm seeing how quickly the news has to be turned around." C-SPAN logo.jpg

Paul McKibben reports that Israel has been working on C-SPAN's Washington Journal program since mid-January. "For the show she helps the producers, production assistants and manager with anything they need assistance with. She'll also help other departments at times. Israel worked on Super Tuesday night when several states had their presidential nominating contests on Feb. 5. That night she worked until about 1 a.m.

The DePauw junior recalls, "I was a guest assistant for that day so I helped escort the guests inside and anyone that was ... there to help research. I just made sure that everything was running smoothly with guests."

Chelsea's mother, Denice Israel, says, "This couldn't be a better experience for her in particular because she's very interested in politics."
