Tigers Sweep SCAC Doubleheader with Sewanee

April 5, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - The 27th-ranked Tigers improved to 22-6 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a doubleheader sweep over visiting Sewanee. DePauw took the first game by a 5-1 score and won the nightcap, 10-0. Sewanee dropped to 4-20 overall and 2-7 in the SCAC.
John Tschantz gave up a run in the first inning of the opener, but then shut out Sewanee over the final six innings in improving to 6-2.
Austin Stephenson singled with one out in the first and moved to second on a wild pitch before Taylor Burns brought him home with a single to right.
Eric Reese and Justin Weiner delivered RBI singles in the second to give DePauw a 2-1 lead before Jon Newman's fielder's choice grounder and Reese's sacrifice fly in the fourth pushed the margin to 4-1. Matt Kleine scored the game's final run in the fifth when he stole third and scored on an errant throw on the play.
DePauw totaled seven hits in the win with Weiner and Jeremy Dickinson each finishing with two. Burns had two of Sewanee's four hits. Greg Bartleski suffered the loss and dropped to 3-3.
Jeremy Alland pitched a complete game shutout in the second game which was shortended to seven innings with the 10-run rule. Alland allowed just four hits and struck out six in improving to 3-2. Sewanee starter Steven Shepherd dropped to 0-5 with the loss.
The Tigers scored seven in the first, two in the third and one in the seventh and totaled 13 hits. Dickinson and Reese finished with three hits each, while Weiner and Mike Stout totaled two apiece. Dickinson drove in three in the win. Four different Sewanee players collected one hit each.
