DePauw Picked to Finish Second in SCAC Race

August 26, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - In voting by the seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference head football coaches, the Tigers were picked to finish second in the SCAC behind nine-time defending champion Trinity.

Trinity finished with 43 points and five first-place votes, while DePauw totaled 41 points and one first-place vote. Sewanee was third with 33 points. Those three school shared the 2000 title with Trinity moving on to represent the conference at the NCAA Championship and winning two games.

Senior quarterback Jason Lee, last year's SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, is the preseason pick to repeat that distinction this season. Junior receiver Dan Ryan was the other player to earn preseason all-conference honors on offense. Senior linebacker Jason Geringer shared preseason defensive player of the year honors with Sewanee linebacker Jason Wheat and was joined on the preseason defensive team by senior Alson Jacquet and juniors Charles Stanback and John Christophersen.
