Seven DePauw Vocalists Take First Place Awards at State Competition

November 3, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Students in the DePauw University School of Music took 20 awards, including seven first place prizes, at the National Association of Teachers of Singer (NATS) state competition. More than 275 vocalists from across Indiana competed in the event, which was held Saturday at Indiana State University.

The following are the DePauw winners, with their voice professor noted in parenthesis:

  • Category B: First & Second Year College Men & Women, Musical Theatre - First Place: David Terry (student of Caroline Smith); Second Place: Case Nafziger (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category C: Third & Fourth Year College Men & Women, Musical Theatre - First Place: Matt Patterson (student of Caroline Smith); Third Place: Caitlin Brown (student of Kyle Ferrill).
  • Category 2a: First Year College Women - Second Place: Lauren Musical Note.jpgPalmer (student of Pamela Coburn).
  • Category 2b: First Year College Women - Second Place (tie): Sara Horton (student of Caroline Smith) and Jennifer Wilson (student of Caroline Smith); Third Place: Kacey Hermening (student of Kyle Ferrill).
  • Category 4a: Second Year College Women - Third Place: Jorie Moss (student of Pamela Coburn).
  • Category 4b: Second Year College Women - First Place: Elizabeth Orsborn (student of Caroline Smith); Third Place: Andrea Spencer (student of Pamela Coburn).
  • Category 5b: Second Year College Men - First Place: Bradley King (student of Keith Tonne).
  • Category 8b: Third Year College Women - First Place: Alaine Geeding (student of Caroline Smith); Honorable Mention: Emily Rose (student of Caroline Smith).
  • Category 8c: Third Year College Women - Second Place: Catherine Lerum (student of Kyle Ferrill).
  • Category 10a: Fourth Year College Women - First Place: Lyndsay Moy (student of Jay White); Second Place: Emily Stubbs (student of Jay White); Third Place: Anna Robinson (student of Kyle Ferrill).
  • Category 11: Fourth Year College Men - First Place: Carl Frank (student of Caroline Smith); Second Place: Joe Shadday (student of Caroline Smith).
