Sewanee Tops Tigers in SCAC Semifinals

November 8, 2008, Danville, Ky. - Fourth-seed Sewanee scored twice in the final 10 minutes and claimed a 3-2 win over top-seed DePauw in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship semifinal contest.

DePauw dropped to 13-4 with the loss and faces Rhodes in tomorrow's 11 a.m. third-place match. Sewanee improved to 13-6 and faces host Centre in the 1:30 p.m. title game. Centre defeated Rhodes, 1-0 in overtime, in the other semifinal game.

Lynn Hancock gave Sewanee a 1-0 lead mdway through the first half and the scored stayed that way at the intermission. Meredith Ellis tied the contest at 1-1 at 49:38 on Beth Seegers' assist before Carolyn Mueller gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead at 51:57 on another Seegers assist.

Sewanee's Claiborne Buckingham knotted the score with just under 10 minutes left before Caroline Carlin delivered the game-winning goal with 3:54 left.

The Tigers outshot Sewanee 26-12 and hled a 14-4 edge in corners. DePauw's Liz Attewell totaled two saves, while Clarkie Crawford finished with three for Sewanee.
