Fitch and McNelis Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic Honors

November 6, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. -DePauw defensive ends Alex Fitch and Michael McNelis has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division football team in voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Fitch_Alex_2008fb.jpgFitch, a first team selection, advances to the national ballot. The junior has a 3.98 cumulative grade point average while majoring in both mathematics and economics. 

He's totaled 21 tackles on the season including eight solos. He's tied for fifth on the team with 3.0 tackles for loss including 1.5 sacks. Fitch also has four quarterback hurries, five blocked kicks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He's twice been named to the Team of the Week this year.

McNelis_Michael_2008fb.jpgMcNelis, a senior, was a second team selection with a 3.69 cumulative grade point averaging while majoring in both economics and Spanish.

He's totaled 22 tackles on the season including 11 solos. He's fourth on the team with 3.5 tackles for loss with a team-high 3.0 sacks and  leads the squad with five hurries. McNelis was a first team all-district selection in 2007 and a second team choice in 2006.
