Lynn Bohmer '69 Honored as Greencastle's 'Citizen of the Year'

February 2, 2009

lynn bohmer.jpgFebruary 2, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Lynn (Reuss) Bohmer, a 1969 graduate of DePauw University, is Greencastle's 2008 "Citizen of the Year." Bohmer was honored Saturday night at the annual dinner of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, which presents the award. The event took place at DePauw's indoor tennis and track center.

"The effect this one person has had on this community is phenomenal, and should be inspiring to all of us," says Amy Doan, the chamber's incoming president. (in photo below, Doan, left, hugs Bohmer after presenting her with the award)

A story in today's Banner Graphic notes, "Bohmer, who is a board member for the Humane Society of Putnam County and has also worked with the Putnam County Community Foundation, Mental Health America of Putnam County, United Way of Putnam County and many other local organizations, called the award "a true honor." She pointed out that without the efforts of many, the groups she supports would not be able to do the good works they do. 'This is a Lynn Bohmer 1-31-2009.jpgcommunity where people are always willing to step forward,' she said."

As she was honored, Lynn Bohmer expressed amazement that her husband and 1969 DePauw classmate, David, had known about the award for several weeks and kept mum. "I'm surprised my husband was able to keep this a secret," she joked. "He has a big mouth." Dave Bohmer is director of DePauw's Eugene S. Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media.
