Tigers Face Southwestern in SCAC Quarterfinals

2009SCAC Tournament Logo_403x360.jpgFebruary 26, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. —  The 19-6 Tigers open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament play on Friday, February 27, when they face Southwestern in the second quarterfinal game. DePauw earned the Eastern Division's number two seed with an 11-3 SCAC record. Southwestern, 16-9 overall and 7-8 in the SCAC, is the third seed from the Western Division.

The teams met on February 1 in Greencastle with DePauw taking an 81-54 win. In that game, Mike Moore led the Tigers with 21 points, while Joe Bergfeld added 12. David Gray hauled down a career-high 15 rebounds. Travis Barber led the Pirates with 19 points and Jonathan Brown grabbed 13 boards.

DePauw has appeared in all six previous SCAC tournaments and is 3-3 in quarterfinal games. Southwestern eliminated the Tigers in the opening round of both the 2004 and 2005 tournaments. DePauw captured the 2006 SCAC title by defeating Centre 64-61, on Austin Brown's game-winner at the buzzer from beyond halfcourt.

The winner of Friday's game advances to Saturday's first semifinal game at 5 p.m. CST where they'll face the winner of the Trinity-Sewanee game at Hendrix College. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CST.
