Junior Pitcher Honored for Work on Mound and in Classroom

gerlach_brad_2009baseball.jpgJune 2, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University junior Brad Gerlach has been selected to the  ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Baseball Second Team in voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

In the classroom, Gerlach had a 3.39baseball home_plate_bat_ball.jpg cumulative grade point average through the fall semester while majoring in biochemistry. On the field, Gerlach -- who is a pitcher -- recorded a 7-3 record including a 2.34 earned run average. He led the Tigers with three complete games and 52 strikeouts as opponents batted just .259 against him.

Gerlach was also  selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III All-Mideast Region Second Team and was a first team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selection.
