Toole, a 1993 graduate of DePauw University, has joined North Carolina's High Point University as a professor in the department of religion and philosophy. Dr. Toole comes from the University of Colorado, where he completed a three-year appointment.

The professor "is passionate about exploring the intersection of religious belief, practice and identity through comparative analysis," according to an announcement from High Point. "Toole's primary specialty is East Asian religious ritual activity, but he is currently researching spiritual transformation through pilgrimage, Buddhist environmentalism and the construction of hybrid religious identity."

After graduating from DePauw, where he majored in sociology, Toole received a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. He plans to complete a doctorate in theology, philosophy, cultural theory and comparative religious studies from the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology this year.
