Jazz Saxophonist Frank Catalano at 'The Duck' Thursday

September 27, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Saxophonist Frank Catalano, who has been described as "John Coltrane energy for the 21st Century" by DownBeat magazine, swings through Greencastle this week. Catalano will performs as part of the DePauw Jazz at the Duck series thus Thursday, October 1. The performance will take place from 9 to 11 p.m. in Walden Inn's Fluttering Duck and is presented free of charge.
Catalano is currently touring in support of his latest album, Bang!, which debuted at #12 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. His previous CD, Mighty Burner, spent 20 consecutive weeks on the Billboard chart, establishing Catalano as a national musical force to be reckoned with. Catalano is also the youngest saxophonist ever to appear in the DownBeat critics' poll and has appeared with such diverse artists as Tony Bennett, Carlos Santana and John Legend.
"It is always an exciting event when Frank plays at the Duck," says Paul Musser, the bassist and DePauw professor who directs the jazz series. "He performs with such a high level of intensity, while managing to really make a connection with his audience."
After visiting DePauw, Catalano heads to St. Louis for a weekend set at the acclaimed club Jazz at the Bistro.
Established in 2005, DePauw Jazz at the Duck features area jazz musicians as well as the University's talented jazz students and faculty. The weekly performances -- all on Thursday evenings and presented free of charge -- take place in the friendly confines of the Fluttering Duck. Upcoming series events include the John Spicknall Trio (October 8), Sandy Williams Quartet (October 15), and Matt Pivec Quartet (October 29).Back
