Riffle's Hat Trick Leads DePauw to SCAC Win

September 27, 2009, Sewanee, Tenn. — DePauw's Sarah Riffle (left) posted her second hat trick of the season and delivered the late game-winning goal in the Tigers' 3-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Sewanee. The game, which started yesterday but was suspended due to weather, was completed this morning.
DePauw improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC, while Sewanee dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Sewanee's Molly Kennedy gave the hosts a 1-0 lead on Saturday on Anne Booke's assist at 18:49 before play was called. Riffle scored the first of her three goals this morning on an assist from Caroline Torie at 32:00 and then gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead at 37:52 on Kimberly Trainor's assist.
Caroline Carlin tied the contest at 2-2 at 45:38 before Riffle scored the game-winner at 64:52 on Bridgette Shamleffer's assist.
Sewanee held a 15-9 edge in both shots and corners in the game. Liz Attewell recorded seven saves in goal for DePauw, while Emily Detmer had two for Sewanee and Anna Morrow totaled three.
DePauw returns to action on Friday, October 2, when it hosts Hendrix in a 5 p.m. SCAC game.
