Nobel Laureate Ferid Murad '58 Noted in AP Report

Ferid Murad ARW 2008.jpgOctober 5, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Ferid Murad, M.D., Ph.D., a 1958 graduate of DePauw University who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1998, is noted today in an Associated Press listing of "recent winners of the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine." The notation follows word that three American scientists (Elizabeth H. Blackburn of the University of California, San Francisco; Carol W. Greider of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; and Jack W. Szostak of Massachusetts General Hospital) will share this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Dr. Murad, director emeritus of The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, was named one of 13 distinguished scientists for 2008 by the American Heart Association.
