October 22, 2009

October 22, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University freshman Lauren Castagno has been named Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference Offensive Field Hockey Player of the Week, while senior Lauren Reich has been honored as the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Both are being honored for their performances last week.

"Castagno played two outstanding matches as DePauw went 1-1 for the weekend, defeating Oberlin 7-0 and rallying in the second half but falling short in a well played match against Wooster on Sunday," notes the SCAC's citation.

It adds, "On Saturday Castagno started the scoring for the Tigers just 34 seconds into the game, assisted on the next goal, and then scored the Tiger's third goal of the game all before halftime. Playing an excellent game on the forward line reich_lauren_2009wtrack.jpgand creating many opportunities for the Tigers, Castagno added her second goal of the game during the second half.Castagno had another outstanding effort on Sunday, showing great ball control and dribbling skills to eliminate defenders."

Of Reich (seen at right), the conference reports that she "placed 5th out of 466 runners at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational. Her time for the 6K course was 21:02 which is a personal record and new school record at DePauw. She led the Tigers to a 4th place team finish."

Reich was also honored as runner of the week last month.
