Margaret Sutherlin 09dp.jpgNovember 14, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — "Margaret Sutherlin of DePauw University on Saturday won the 23rd Annual Thomas R. Keating Feature Writing Program in Indianapolis," reports the Indianapolis Star tonight. Sutherlin is a DePauw senior.

"The Indianapolis Press Club Foundation-sponsored Keating writing challenge annually features 10 finalists representing Indiana's best college journalism students," notes the item. "Sutherlin was awarded first place and prize money of $2,500 for her essay ... The program is named in honor of Tom Keating, a popular former Indianapolis Star columnist and Lilly Endowment executive who died in 1985 at the age of 45."

The article adds, "The Percussive Arts Society International Convention at the Indiana Convention Center was the site and subject matter for the Keating program's 2009 Writing Challenge. The Keating finalists were dropped off at the convention center at 11 a.m. Saturday and given four hours to develop and write a feature story. The Indianapolis Star provided space in its newsroom for the finalists to craft their stories."
